European Production

Why we’re doing it...

AEF help battery cell manufacturers avoid expensive future tariffs by building a pathway to localisation.

The Need to Localise

From 1st January 2027, Every battery cell sold in the EU will require a unique identifier (QR code or Battery Passport) containing information on:

– ESG performance
– Manufacturing history and provenance
– Performance and durability statistics

From 2026, the CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) regulations come into effect and it is likely to be extended to include copper foil. This will increase the import tariffs on foils made outside of Europe making those products more expensive.

Europe will have 500KT shortage of EU made copper foil by 2030.

AEF work with cell manufactures to form strategic collaborations that will result in localised production of the foils they require.
