Building the copper supply chain
We focus on supporting the current and emerging PCB and battery industries in Europe. Our foil has been approved by some of the world’s best manufacturers, and is already in mass production with a mill capacity today of 20KT and expansion plans to reach 40KT by 2031.
AEF sales and distribution operate from the UK facility in Cheshire and serve the European and US markets with copper foil manufactured by Yihao New Materials Co. AEF was created to support the joint venture company set up between Avocet Materials Group, Yihao New Materials Co Ltd, and Textechnolgy Inc. The Joint Venture company aims to establish a copper foil manufacturing facility in Europe by 2030.
AEF is owned and operated by Avocet Materials Group, a collection of complimentary companies that are in the manufacturing sector specifically focused on battery materials. At the heart of our philosophy we understand the needs of manufacturers and work with them to tackle the significant challenges they face.
The Pathway to European Production
In July 2023, Avocet Materials Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Yihao New Materials Co Ltd and Tex Technology to establish a European manufacturing site for Copper Foil production.
In March 2024, the 3 companies agreed to form a Joint Venture company (European Electrofoils) to manufacture battery copper foil in Europe. The project is now in site selection phase.
AEF will supply foils from Yihao New Materials Co prior to establishing the European site (expected 2030).

Kieren Hall
Kieren is the CEO of Avocet Materials Group and cofounder of ABM. Located in the UK, ABM is Europes only independently owned producer of lead tabs for lithium ion pouch cells. Kieren has a decade of experience in the sale and quality management of precision metals including some 8 years advising battery companies, having lectured on the topic of battery materials at some of the worlds most prestigious academic institutions. Kieren founded ABM in September 2020 delivering an R&D laboratory and associated production facility for the research of new battery innovation.
Andrew Cuthbert
An experienced company director. Andrew has significant experience in Europe and founded The Change IS Gmbh from which he has raised €182m for German companies through the Fzulg legislation since 2020. Andrew has multiple technology based exits under his belt including his first Omnisoft in 2012 and holds a diverse range of interests. Andrew has designed and developed technology products with sales in excess £1bns. With products deployed product in over 120 countries across a wide array of businesses.
Lei Liu
Lei serves as the General Manager of Yi Hao New Materials Co. He holds Australian nationality and possesses a master’s degree in financial studies. He worked as a Financial Specialist at Australia’s Livingstone Pty Ltd from June 2011 to December 2013. Since September 2011, he has been serving as a Director at Hong Kong Yi Yuan. From January 2014 to June 2018, he held the position of General Manager at Maple Education Pty Ltd. Since December 2018 to the present, he has been fulfilling the role of Vice General Manager and Secretary of the Board at the company. He successfully led Yi Hao to achieve public company last year, as well as expansion of the existing production facility from 10,000ton to 20,000ton.
Rui Ma
Rui Ma currently holds the position of General Manager at Tex Technologies Inc, where he brings a wealth of expertise in sales, marketing, and new business development. His journey with the company began in August 2003 when he started as a worker, and over the years, he has gained extensive and diverse experience across various departments within the Group. With a remarkable track record spanning more than 20 years in the metal and plastic processing machinery industry, Rui Ma has played a pivotal role in driving the company’s growth. His leadership has been instrumental in expanding the company’s presence not only in the copper foil sector but also in elevating sales within the separator film industry, lithium battery cell manufacturing machinery segment, and associated materials
